Sets and News

Every year, the school asks sophomores to get an internship to help them find the job they wish to pursue later on. I, having known what I wanna do since I was about 10, (obviously) set out to find an internship on a movie/ad/whatever-I-can-find set.
Unfortunately, the directors I reached out to weren't sure about anything lined up for the precise week the internship had to be on so I, defeated, asked my dad if I could do it at his company (I know, it sounds really bad, I'm really against going the easy way and letting my parents just hand me things in life but I was short on time and didn't know what else I could choose).
One of the company's lines of business include Digital Asset Management for Broadcasting, Surveillance and Media Production (In short, they sell products to TVs, directors(!), etc etc, and teach them how to make their production look pretty). I really wasn't expecting a lot out of this internship but turns out it was a really cool learning opportunity:
Green screens make things seem that much cooler

I got to go to a shoot for a clothing brand advert that I'm so looking forward to seeing on TV (Although I didn't really understand the concept of the ad, but ya know, as long as it's pretty, right?). The Director of Photography was so nice and made me feel so at ease (I, on the other hand, was so shy and awkward he almost had to drag me from the back of the studio to have a closer look), and the actor's head was so far up his own ass it was absolutely hilarious(Seriously, I doubt you need a personal assistant just to give you your phone when it rings).
I also got the chance to visit the StudioVision headquarters and get a tour of the MTV studios (Didn't get the chance to go see what happens at NRJ, dammit!).
The place is so big: There are so many controls rooms, "On Air" signs and people frantically walking trying to get to their desks.

I got to watch the news live from the studio which I was suspiciously excited about considering I never watch the news, ever.
People kept pushing me to go closer and I was like "Ermagerd no I can't". Socially awkward I tell you.
The work they put into lighting and angling is incredible. I honestly thought the whole space was used for shooting but most of it is actually working spaces and desks.

A few thoughts: Something I've realized is that you put someone in front of a camera and they automatically think the world shines out of their ass. Also, I find it very fascinating and a little sad that a big part of your success in this industry is determined by your looks (Damn it, genes).
It totally blends into the scenery, doesn't it?

Overall this was a very enjoyable experience and although I don't particularly wanna work on directing the news or TV programs, I still appreciated it as I am a big fan of the 'Behind The Scenes' aspect of filming.
Hope you enjoyed this post, and do tell how your internship was (I so wish I could've done it at a hospital) or just how your week's been!
