This month's favorites have really been music/TV Show orientated so I thought I'd dedicate a whole post to them (With a little mention to my favorite book of the month).
I got a lot of mixed reviews about Orange is the New Black: Some told me it was great, some said it was horrible so I decided to see for myself and I honestly fell in love with this show after the 1st episode. It's a female-centered series which is something that just doesn't exist in today's day and age and is actually based on a real story which makes it so much more emotional. It's sad and funny and so raw that it's hard not to be touched by each woman's individual story. You'll find yourself rooting for these women who are supposed to be horrible, dangerous criminals but are just humans who found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is quite raunchy though so if you're easily bothered by that then you probably shouldn't watch the show.
(P.S: You should check out Frozen is The New Black. Hilarious).
Now, everybody coming at me with their pitchforks and their '5sos is a boyband' comments, sit yo ass down.
1) Good music isn't defined by if you're a boyband or not.
2) Advice you should live by: You can't judge a band by their single which I'm sure you've all done. They're not a boyband and they're not a commercial product. Listen to the whole album and then we'll talk.
It's really refreshing to have a band with punk and rock influences come in when most of the music these days is fabricated bubble gum pop (Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just nice to get something new for pop rock/punk inclined peeps). I've been following this band for a few years now and I can truly say that they deserve every bit of recognition they get. Also, I've been waiting for their 1st album for a million years and it did not disappoint at all; I've literally been listening to it back-to-back since it came out.
Sam Smith has been a fairly recent discovery of mine, I only know a couple songs of his but dang he's good. He's a British new-comer with crazy vocals and strong lyrics that will make you weep like a baby. Stay with Me particularly touched me and I don't even know why but I can't listen to the song til the end without getting emotional. Sam Smith the kinda guy to make you feel guilty for leaving when you don't even know him (And also when you both shoot for the same team).
He's just really good and I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of his album and see where he's going because I just know he's gonna become huge.
I'm pretty sure you're all familiar with my love for the Divergent trilogy (If not, you can get up to speed here) so you can imagine my utter delight when Four was announced. It's basically a compilation of 4 stories in Four's POV: The Transfer, The Initiate, The Son and The Traitor + 3 additional exclusive scenes. I am currently reading The Initiate and I'm hooked. Everyone is so intrigued by Four's character and being able to look into his background really unveils him. I really like the fact that it's mainly focused on him and his life before Tris but also contains some parts with Tris so you can truly understand the extent as to how much he's changed.
I hope you like this kind of favorites and if you didn't, don't worry, the mix-and-match ones will be back next month.
What has been your favorite thing this month? Summer's done! Can you believe it? #sadness (Yes I just used a hashtag, deal with it).
