Passions
My interest for books and writing started developing from a very
young age: It fascinated me how people could create these stories and make
these characters exist only by the medium of their imagination. Now, it excites me that
I can do the same.
I loved it; loved how it made me so involved in lives that were only real in my head and how I could escape to another realm with the flick of a paper. People never understood this crazy infatuation with books and I was generally okay with that: They found reading boring and I understood how they could never get how riveting I found it.
With reading came writing, and when I started this blog and “revealed” it to my friends and
piers, it got a bit worse: People were straight-up making fun of me for it and
to be honest, it hit hard. I don’t have that thick of a skin so when people
make mean remarks or even mean jokes,
I take it harder than I should. And so I thought about quitting, deleting this
blog and just being content with the fact that I had the courage to put it out
there in the first place.
But then another thought crossed my mind- Why the hell would I do that? I
realized how ridiculous it would have been if I had sacrificed something that
gave me great joy because I was afraid of
being mocked.
I’m applying this to myself but really it could be for any
passion that you might have-a passion for photography or fashion or acting- a
passion that isn’t “in the norm”. If this is what you love then you should never
feel ashamed to put it out there for the world to see. These deep passions
created some of the greatest artists of our generation: People like Elie Saab,
like Eminem (random, I know but I love that dude), like J.K Rowling to name a few, people
that started out only doing what they love out of pure passion, people like me and you.
All I really have to say is; if it makes you happy then keep on
trucking. This little escape you have-your happy place-belongs to you and only you: You can build it up, make a career out of it or you can keep it to yourself, make it a place where you put everything aside and drift off to for a while but at the end of the day, never forget that the choice is yours and that you shouldn't compromise what you love for anything.
