2. Summer Reading List

Summer is finally upon us and all the books I've been religiously keeping away from in fear of putting my revisions in the back burner are finally making their way into my hands! It's been so long...

I've been meaning to read this book for a long time but it's quite intense and I don't really think you can read it in parts, so I want to be fully concentrated when getting to it. It's the autobiography of Cheryl Strayed; a woman who left the few things she still had behind to go on a 3 month hike on the Pacific Crest Trail. I'm not doing this book- or this woman- justice by trying to explain the plot, but I really think you should check it out because it will really shake you up and make you put things into perspective.

My friend actually recommended me this book as he thought I'd like it and I have to say- so far, so good. It's the story of a young boy (it is implied that he has some sort of disorder, like Asperger or autism) trying to work out who murdered his neighbor's dog. The book is written in a very 'to the point' manner which I love and I think the author made it a point to show us that people that are different shouldn't be pitied, but embraced for their differences which is something I completely agree with.

I was at a book fair the other day and I saw this and it was just meant to be: I've been really trying to understand this whole Wikileaks thing for a while now so really, this is perfect.
Also, one thing you gotta know about me is I love knowing things- Everything, from small trivial facts about flowers to the inside scoop on huge scandals- which is why this book is really up my street.

This is the only book I haven't read yet but the one I'm most excited for. I love Carrie and, 'knowing' her a little, I'm sure her book will be full of funny anecdotes and useful advice. I reckon this will be a good holiday book, to read on the beach with a cocktail in one hand. God, that sounds like the dream.
