Let's Talk: Body Positivity!
As you may have noticed from my lack of updates, I'm a bit stuck. I don't know where I want this blog to go, I don't want it to be confined to one thing: I want it to be very eclectic (SAT word, yeah buddy! Don't know if I'm using it properly!) and to not only contain advice and book/movie reviews but also fashion, beauty and lots of life updates and stories because that's just things I enjoy writing about!
With that in mind, I decided to start this little series entitled "Let's Talk:...!" where I talk about things that have been gnawing on my mind: It could be things as trivial as makeup and fashion or more serious issues like eating disorders and anxiety.
Grab a cup of tea (or whiskey, whatever floats your boat), get under your covers and pretend I'm right there with ya (Not under the covers, that would be weird), just having a good old chat.
Longest introduction ever done, let's talk body positivity!
I could probably write a 6 pages-long essay about the things I'd like to change about my appearance (Chin, thighs, nose, this freckle, those stretch marks... You know, the usual) but what good would that do? It'll only make me feel worse and I will probably end up pittying myself-which is completely stupid.
Although I have parents that always taught me not to judge, I live in a society where the width of your thighs defines you more than your personality does. We learn to judge people based off their appearance and in turn, we judge ourselves if we don't fit the norm.
I'm not here to preach what I don't practise but recently I've learned a thing or two about embracing your "flaws" and it's changed my outlook on things.
Basically, accepting who you are as a whole-flaws and all-it'll only make you happier: That weird birth mark on your leg, your curvy or stick-thin figure, your fugly toes, they're details about yourself that, more often than not, only you notice but there's the things that make you you, as cliche as that sounds. Accepting these things about yourself, as trivial as that sounds, is hard but it's so worth it!
Obviously, if dieting or lasering or whatever-it-is-that-people-do makes you feel better about yourself than do it, as long as it makes you happy. Just remember that this is the only body you'll ever have, and that this is who you are and instead of hating it, you should learn to embrace your quirky little tweeks and also learn to accept other peoples'. Don't go commenting on things they don't have control over like a massive twat just to be mean.
The only way to get positivity is to spread it.
I'm really being all over the place, aren't I?
To sum everything up, surround yourself with positivity, get a better outlook on your body (and other peoples' too, be nice!) and accept what you can't change.
(Also, do tell me if you like this Let's Talk idea, please and thank you.)
