A Profile: Tarek
Sometimes you meet people and wonder "How have I spent my whole life without this person?". They're a sort of platonic soul mate, someone who's always on the same wave length as you. They're funny, and nice, and most importantly, genuinely considerate. All of these adjectives qualify to Tarek. That's why I wanted to write about him. And that's why I consider him to be one of the greatest persons I've ever had the pleasure to meet.
1. Introduce yourself and give us one fun fact about you: Okay, Hellooo, my name is Tarek Abou Sleiman, I'm 17 years old and I live in Beirut. I'm Lebanese and Canadian and yeah. Fun fact about meee... I don't know, kind of a weird question and I don't know what to answer. I could say that I'm always happy and hyper but that's not really a fun fact. I'm just gonna let this question pass and I'm gonna try to be more interesting with the next ones..
2. What's your favorite memory ever? I don't have one particular favorite, but I do have plenty of amazing memories.. I could talk about all my trips that were all amazing. And just moments with my family and friends and stuff. I just live life to the fullest so I got lots of amazing memories basically. The elephant ride in India was something I'll never forget; the trips that I did with my audio visual class gang (hey gurl)to France and to the north of Lebanon were just moments I'll never forget. Bike rides in Berlin with my famjam were just the best. I honestly can't choose one in particular, my life has been amazing dude.
3. What song makes you feel all the feels and why? Okay, at this very moment, many songs are making me feel "all the kinds of feels".. Quite a diverse selection, but I don't care. First one: "Higher" by Rihanna, I don't know what it feels like to be high but I do know what it feels like to be drunk and in love, and her vocals and her vulnerability in this song are just mesmerizing (yes, mesmerizing, I am using that word.) Second song, "Space Dementia" by Muse, I haven't stopped listening to this song for over 2 years.. This song is just phenomenal and the music and the use of certain instruments makes it so fluent and peaceful and beautifully dazzling. I could talk about "Love in the Dark" by Adele and "Toxicity" by System of a Down, but I'm just gonna stop there.
4. What are three things that make you you? Okay, the first thing I'm gonna say is that I try to be "cool" and a "rebel", but I'm just not and everyone knows it. I can never be late to class and if I am, stress takes over. I rarely miss class (perfect attendance last year but not this year due to diarrhea and freaking fever *love life*) and I'm really organized and I study... A lot.
Second thing that makes me me... I'm really outspoken and talkative and crazy and I talk a looot. I'm just loud basically. It annoys some people, other people love it. I basically don't care if people like it or not, that's who I am.
And that brings us to the third thing that makes me me: I don't care. I care about people and I'm always here for anyone who needs my help, friend or not. But, I really don't care what people think about me and what they say about me. I just live life the way I want to, without a care in the world.
5. What's your biggest fear? Mmmmm, biggest fear. Okay, my biggest fear in life, other than the usual ones like dying and losing my family and stuff, I'm gonna have to say eyes. I hate eyes, and not when I look at an eye it scares me, no, but when someone starts poking someone else's eye or when girls put eye makeup and shit, it creeps the hell out of me. I hate it. Try to get your finger near my eye and I will hit it so quickly (shoutout to Rachel from FRIENDS who has the same phobia). Oh and I hate, HATE dragonflies. I know they're innocent and blablabla but they scare the bejeezus out of me. Childhood trauma and shit you know. Okay, I was 3 years old and we were at the pool and I reaaally had to pee. So while I was talking towards the toilet and as I was getting closer to the toilet'ds door, I could discern a very big creature floating near the entrance of the WC. So I just turned around and started walking back to the pool (I was probably thinking that I could pee in the kids pool like every other kid in the world) but I noticed that the dragonfly was following me. So I started running and the dragonfly was still behind me and so I jumped in the pool and held my breath as long as I could, hoping that it would fly away. If the same thing had happened to you when you were younger, believe me, you would feel the same way.
6. What does a perfect day look like in your eyes? I can't describe a whole day, like I don't have A PERFECT DAY but there are some things that I adore doing and that really brighten up my days: I love going to the movies with my mom, it's kind of our thing now. Playing Black Ops 3 with my dad, my sis and my mom always makes us laugh. Having lunch the 4 of us also is amazing. Getting to play squash, to swim and to exercise with my friends really is awesome and doing something with some friends and partying later is amazing. I love to go out at night, dance and have a drink or two you know. So yeah, if you can combine all these things in a day, I think it would be perfect I guess.
7. What is your biggest pet peeve? People who complain all day. I get that people do complain, everyone does, but all the time? Is your life so miserable? No, you just wanna bring attention to yourself. I think that people everywhere are so much less fortunate and the fact that people complain all day everyday for nothing infuriates me. Love life, love what God has given you. You always gotta think about the positive things in life and just be happy. Yeah, I'm going a bit too far but it does annoy me. Oh and people who chew with their mouths open. Why? Ain't nobody gotta see dat.
8. What is the worst way to handle getting your heart broken? Haha, good questions.. Well, my heart has just gotten broken once. It was horrible and everyone could see that I was sad and shit. And I think the worst way to get over a breakup, in my personal experience, is to continue to talk to the person every day (cause that's what I did, yes, me stupid) cause you're never gonna get over that person. I'm still not over that person frankly and it sucks but it's love and it's life and you gotta live with it. Oh and eating ice cream is not the right answer, hitting the gym and working out is, cause you gon' be fly afterwards and you can let it all out while exercising and stuff.
9. What book would you recommend me? At this moment, I'm reading a series that I don't really like but that I have to finish. But I can't wait to finish it cause when I am, I'm gonna start reading "A Little Life" by Hanya Yanagihara which looks amazing(Jack Falahee from How To Get Away With Murder says so) and then I'm gonna read "Thirteen Reasons Why" by Jay Asher that I decided to read because of one of your previous blog posts *winkwink*. But I'm also gonna recommend "Mr. Mercedes" by Stephen King.. A very dark, detailed and disturbing novel. It took me some time to read it but I personally think that the way Stephen King writes is really astonishing.
10. What is one quality you wish you possessed? (Not that you need to be any different. You're perfect just the way you are :)) Okay, I'm gonna start by saying that I adore the way I am, and I have learned to accept myself for who I am. BUT, there is something that does bug me about myself and that I'd like to change. I am very outgoing and shit and I love to meet new people and make friends and I'm really the opposite of shy, but when it comes to meeting girls and trying to flirt with a girl, I just forget how to function and I start babbling and shit. It's very annoying and I am shy when it comes to that but I really never know how to start the conversation cause I just start sweating and trembling. So yeah, I kinda would've liked to change that in me, but whatever, you gotta love yourself. Woohoo.
